Top tips for merchandising

Walking through pretty streets in sunny weather, meeting friends for lunch and window-shopping beautiful displays. There are lots of reasons why visiting a physical retailer can be a more enjoyable experience than shopping online, but how can you make sure that window-shopping turns into revenue?

  1. Create seasonal displays that inspire. Flowers and plants breathe life into a room and artificial plants are a great way to replicate the feel of a fresh living space within a shop. Make a focal point of a large plant or tree within your display, but then offer smaller affordable alternatives. This way, shoppers can recreate the feel at home, maintenance free.

  2. Organise your stock by theme. Whether that is by; colour, print, or another design element, for instance our ‘Dreamlike Décor’ in Shop by Style. This gives shoppers structure. If they enjoy the theme, they will actively look for a piece, large or small, to take home.

  3. Benefit from cross merchandising. You could miss out if you are only positioning products by type. That photo frame could be a perfect partner to a jewellery box, or even a vase! This ties in nicely with creating displays by theme. Catching the eye of the consumer and leading them to a product they didn’t know they needed!

  4. Make it an experience. One of the key reasons that people choose the high-street is for a personal experience. Ensure your staff are well informed about how products work, the process that has gone into making them, and what makes them better than stock they can buy elsewhere.   5. If possible, don’t overfill your displays. By only displaying a few of the same item, it can create more of a sense of urgency for your customer. Shops convey a higher value to their products when they have a well-thought-out layout and space within their merchandising. Space within a store encourages the perception of luxury.
